Lands and resources are key drivers to economic prosperity for First Nations communities throughout British Columbia. Recognizing the need for better integration of land management and economic development planning, the first Links to Learning annual technical training forum was launched in 2013 to provide combined professional development opportunities for First Nations Economic Development Officers (EDOs) and Land Management Officers (LMOs) from across BC.

The event allows Indigenous organizations with a mandate to support EDO and LMO capacity development to collaborate and bring an integrated approach to training. This approach also provides significant cost efficiencies for EDOs and LMOs to travel to one event.

Links to Learning 2017 will offer participants a selection of unique workshops and learning sessions with content developed and offered by Cando, the National Aboriginal Lands Managers Association (NALMA), Indigenous & Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), as well as a number of other Indigenous organizations such as Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of BC (AFOA-BC) and the Lands Advisory Board Resource Centre (LABRC). For an additional tuition fee, delegates may also choose from two full-day accredited training/professional development courses offered by Cando and NALMA.

There is no cost for 1 (one) EDO and 1 (one) LMO from each First Nation to attend Links to Learning. Most meals, travel and accommodation will be pre-paid. Please note a credit card will be required upon check-in for incidentals.

Additional First Nation EDOs and LMOs in training may attend for a fee of $350.00 (to cover the cost of meals) plus travel and hotel costs. Registration for additional EDOs and LMOs will open November 20, 2017.

Registration will open in early September. A link to the registration site will be provided to all British Columbia EDOs and LMOs. Please review the workshop schedule and workshop descriptions on Links to Learning site and then make your workshop selections. Once a workshop is full, based on room capacity, you will not be able to register for the workshop. So register early!

You can also contact Svitlana Konoval at skonoval@edo.ca or 1-800-463-9300 to register.

As most meals, hotel and travel will be pre-paid, the only expenses to be reimbursed will be for meals and transport as described in the Travel Information section. Car rental costs will not be reimbursed if you choose to rent a car. Alternative hotel will also not be reimbursed. You will be asked to submit an expense claim to be reimbursed.

Please note that in order to be reimbursed for any costs incurred, full participation at the workshop is required.
