Understanding Economic Development Funding Programs

Description

This workshop will provide the background information on funding programs managed by the Economic Development Unit of INAC’s Lands and Economic Development Directorate. This includes application timelines, budgets and general processes. Participants will also hear presentations from First Nations Administrators and Representatives that have successfully implemented projects through these programs. Participates will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of people that have been through the funding process from applications/ proposals to implementation. The format will include a few short presentations each concluding with a question period.

  • Intent of Economic Development programs.
  • Eligible projects for Economic Development funding.
  • How other communities have successfully implemented projects through these programs.

Presenter Biographies

Angela Bober is the INAC Economic Development Programs Officer for the Mainland Southwest and Thompson regions in British Columbia. Angela has been an Economic Development Officer for 1.5 years. Angela works with 67 First Nations and two Tribal Councils on economic development projects.

Don Potter is the INAC Economic Development Officer for the Coastal and Vancouver Island regions in British Columbia. Don has been an Economic Development Officer for 7 months and will continue to work with the team until May 2018. Don has been with INAC for over 13 years, previously working in Community Infrastructure Directorate. Don currently works with 67 First Nations and 3 Tribal Councils on economic development projects.

Robert LeBlanc is the INAC Economic Development Programs Officer for the Cariboo, Kootenay, Northeast and Nechako Regions in BC. Robert has worked as an Economic Development Officer for 6 months and started working with INAC in 2009. Robert has a background in First Nation Land Management Regime implementation.
